This November, the Palacio de Congresos de Córdoba invites you to discover Iluminaciones del Arte Guadamecí, an extraordinary exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Jorge Centofanti.

At its heart is Guadamecí - the refined Córdoba tradition of adorning leather with gold, silver, pigments, and embossed designs.

Born in the brilliance of Al-Ándalus and enriched through centuries of exchange, it is a living testament to cultural dialogue: Moorish, Jewish, and Christian artisans all left their imprint on this luminous craft.

Jorge Centofanti has been a long-standing supporter of the Idries Shah Foundation. In the 1970s and 80s Idries Shah provided Jorge with some beautiful Calligraphic Designs and asked Centofanti to interpret them onto leather with the Guadameci technique.

Over the years Jorge Centofanti has reimagined this heritage with bold originality and poetic vision. Rooted in the artistry of the ancient guadamacileros, his works expand their horizons, transforming Guadamecí into a universal language of light, memory, and imagination.

Each piece becomes a bridge—between past and present, tradition and innovation, Córdoba’s history and today’s world.

It has always been Jorge’s dream to display his collection of the Illumination Series in a space at the very heart of the Cordoban Guadameci city, where this leather art and craft was born and flourished, and most importantly to donate all proceeds of the sale of his works to the Idries Shah Foundation.

Once created to embellish palaces, cathedrals, and noble houses, Guadamecí continues to shine today as a symbol of shared artistry and timeless beauty. Come to Cordoba and step into a world where history, craftsmanship, and imagination converge - and let yourself be inspired.
By re-envisioning this craft in its birthplace, the exhibition not only revives one of Andalusia’s greatest legacies but also reaffirms the power of art to transcend boundaries and connect us through beauty and creativity. We hope you will be able to come to Cordoba for this event.
